Investing in all of our safety

As valued patients of Lincoln Orthodontics, your health and safety is our utmost priority. Therefore after extensive research our team has heavily invested in extra equipment and anti-virus technology that has enabled us to reopen as safely as possible during the Covid-19 pandemic.

When you next visit our Deacon Road specialist orthodontic practice you will notice that we have purchased new machinery and put in place extra measures - alongside our usual stringent decontamination procedures - including a fogging machine to disinfect and sterilise the surgery using a very fine mist. This equipment has been successfully used before when eradicating SARS - COV2.

We have also bought a Compact Air Purifier that is in constant operation within the surgery, which removes up to 99% of airborne allergens, germs and bacteria as small as 0.03 microns. This clever piece of air decontamination equipment powerfully draws in bacteria, viruses and other pathogens from all corners of the room and sends them through a 5-stage filtration process before pumping clean air back out.

During your treatment we may also place a HEPA suction filter by your mouth to dramatically reduce any aerosol spray and trap viruses and germs with over 99% efficiency. Here is a link to a video that shows a simulation of dental aerosol under UV light using fluorescent ink. The short video shows just how effective this equipment is in reducing the risks associated with aerosol generating procedures (AGPs).

Thankfully, orthodontics is one of the safest forms of dentistry and many of our procedures do not produce any aerosol at all. However, when aerosol is produced, all of our orthodontic therapists and dental nursing staff now wear full medical grade PPE during surgery hours, including gowns, visors, masks, gloves and hair coverings.

Also, throughout the day we clean down every surface using Salvesan, a surface disinfectant specially formulated for dental practices and hospitals for killing viruses. Unlike other cleaners that need to be left in place for several minutes to be effective, Salvesan requires only a few seconds’ contact time to kill 99.9999%* of germs and bacteria, whilst being biodegradable and safe for humans and the environment.
