Early treatment

Set your child’s smile up for success

Bringing your child in for an early consultation at Lincoln Orthodontics can catch orthodontic issues before they begin or worsen. If caught early enough, we can reduce the length and need for orthodontic treatment later in their life.

What age should I bring my child in for an orthodontic assessment?

We strongly recommend parents bring their children in for their first orthodontic consultation around the age of eight or nine. At this age, enough of their adult teeth have grown in that our Specialist Orthodontist can identify early signs of orthodontic issues.

While we may not recommend treatment at this stage, we can monitor the growth of your child’s smile and intervene at the opportune moment.

What will happen at my child’s assessment?

We want our practice to be a warm and welcoming place for your family. When you bring your child in for their first assessment, we’ll make sure you and your child are at ease before we begin

We will ask your child about their oral hygiene routine and do a gentle exam of their teeth and jaws. This will help us predict any treatment they might need in the future. The purpose of this assessment is to reduce the risk of your child needing major orthodontic treatment later.

Early orthodontic treatment

If we decide to start treatment, we have a number of options, including Invisalign® First, the Invisalign® treatment for children. Invisalign® First uses custom made clear aligners to make room for your child’s current and incoming teeth.

Invisalign® First is a gentle introduction to orthodontic treatment. The aligners are made of smooth, comfortable plastic, and they are removable - so they won’t get in the way of your child’s routine.

NHS treatment

We do not provide NHS treatment at Lincoln Orthodontics, but we do have a facility to swap your care over from NHS to private treatment. The cost of this will be dependent on the current treatment stage of your child and their treatment goals. To find out more, please contact us on 01522 533227 and our New Patient Coordinator will talk you through your options.
